Try Scuba Diving

The easiest way to find out if you’ll enjoy scuba diving is to attend one of our dive sessions (PADI Discover Scuba Diving) at our pool in Hampshire. The dive will be conducted at your pace and it’s your opportunity to discover how much fun scuba diving can be. Our dive sessions offer a relaxed and easy introduction to the underwater world in a swimming pool.

Your dive will be conducted by one of our experienced teaching staff. Dives take place once a month at a modern pool facility with easy access to pool side and assistance is available where needed. Before you get wet, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the session with one of our experienced teaching staff. We can discuss your requirements, prepare your equipment and customise the session to suit your needs.

You just need to bring your swimming gear and a towel. All other equipment is provided. Please refer to the note below regarding the medical form. Cost £30 per person (group rates available on request).

If you’re already a qualified diver you’re also welcome to come along and blow some bubbles.  Cost £25 per person or £20 for Dive Ability members.

Dive Courses

Open Water Diver/Ocean Diver

This is the first qualification you will undertake on your journey into the underwater world. The course will teach you everything you need to know in order to dive as a buddy pair or team without supervision of a dive professional. It is fun, easy and comprises a combination of knowledge development, pool training and open water qualifying dives. Disabled divers will follow exactly the same training format, however the skills may need to be adapted to make allowances for a specific disability. The qualification issued will denote how many assistants/buddies are required. All required equipment will be supplied.

Advanced Open Water Diver

This next level will introduce you to a range of additional diving activities, including deep, navigation and a host of other elective dives. You’ll complete 5 dives under the supervision of an instructor and a small amount of knowledge development.

HSA course

HSA Courses

Share your passion for scuba diving with others by completing the HSA instructor or dive buddy course. The course covers the theoretical and practical skills you’ll need to teach or assist people with disabilities.

HSA Instructor Training Course

The HSA Instructor Training Course will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to work with a wide range of disabilities. In addition, you will be able to run the HSA Dive Buddy Course.

The Instructor Training Course provides 3 full days of intensive, insightful theory and application for those instructors eager to accept the challenge of sharpening their teaching skills. Each instructor acquires medical information through a series of lectures on disabilities – what they are and how they relate to diving – followed by a series of confined and open water exercises, designed to simulate disabilities.

By “acting out” these disabilities, instructors actually experience what it’s like to BE a mobility or sight-impaired diver, a sensitising, often surprising revelation even for instructors who have been teaching diving for many years.

Courses are run periodically throughout the year by our in-house HSA Course Directors, based on the level of demand. Alternatively, we are able to tailor a course to suit dive centres or clubs at a convenient time and location.

Please contact us for further details.

Course Pre-requisites:

Certified Open Water Scuba Instructor, Divemaster or equivalent from any recognised training agency.

The following medical form should be completed prior to attending your session:

HSA MEDICAL

Please note: if you answer ‘yes’ to any of the medical conditions listed on the form, you will need to get it countersigned by a GP prior to attending your try dive. If all of the answers are ‘no’, a GP’s signature is not necessary.

We are unable to offer specific medical advice.

HSA Dive Buddy Course

The HSA Dive Buddy Course is a hugely rewarding course aimed at providing you with the skills and knowledge necessary to dive with those who have a disability.

Maybe you know someone, a friend or family member, you’d like to involve in scubadiving. Or, you’d welcome the challenge of learning about disabilities, accessibility issues and how to dive with people who have disabilities. Whatever your reasons, the HSA Dive Buddy Course offers able-bodied divers this opportunity to expand their underwater world to include sharing it with a disabled partner.

An HSA certified Dive Buddy receives nearly as much information and skill training as an instructor , except the training focuses on recreation, not instruction.

Our team of HSA Instructors teach this course periodically throughout the year, based on the level of demand. Alternatively, we are able to tailor a course to suit dive centres or clubs at a convenient time and location.
